According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), each year approximately two million people acquire an infection from a hospital and approximately 1.5 million people acquire infections from long-term care facilities. Over 100,000 of infections acquired in hospitals result in death, and more than 70% of the bacteria and viruses that cause hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are resistant to at least one of the antibiotics commonly used to treat them.
The number of deaths associated with HAIs exceeds the number attributable to several of the top ten leading causes of death reported in the United States vital statistics. More patients die of HAIs each year than die of HIV, breast cancer, and automobile accidents COMBINED. HAIs are a common cause of morbidity and mortality and are among the most common cause of adverse events in healthcare.

Zimek’s Micro-Mist™ application has been proven to drastically reduce HAIs through an independent study. Click here for the Hospital Case Study.

Some common areas of use in the healthcare sector which should be treated by Zimek are: Operating Rooms, Isolation Rooms, Delivery Rooms, Emergency Rooms, Waiting Rooms, Patient Rooms, Assisted Living Facilities, Rehabilitation Facilities, Wheel Chairs, Hospital Beds, Privacy Curtains, Medical Equipment, Research Laboratories, etc.

First Responders are on the front line combating infections and illnesses. They are responsible for transporting a number of patients and victims to or between hospitals. Each time fire or EMS responders transport a patient to the hospital, there is an opportunity for harmful viruses and bacteria to make their way into the ambulance.
In a study of 21 ambulances screened for MRSA,47.6% tested positive. MRSA was found on the steering wheel, patient stretcher, the work area beside the patient, and the Yankauer suction tip. Contamination was primarily found in areas utilized by the crew as opposed to those in contact with patients.

Some common areas of use in Fire/EMS are: Ambulances, Fire Trucks, Sleeping Quarters, Offices, Turnout Gear, etc.

Prisons and jails have historically been incubators of disease. Today, a disproportionate number of people with infectious diseases, including MRSA and Hepatitis C, will cycle through jails and prisons each year. Because of overcrowded conditions and an overabundance of new arrivals, many of whom have drug problems and poor health, corrections facilities are especially vulnerable to infectious disease.

It is no secret that the conditions in prisons are often unsanitary and dangerous, creating the ideal circumstances for the spread of infectious diseases.

Some common areas of use in the law enforcement sector which should be treated by Zimek are: Patrol Vehicles, SWAT vehicles, Inmate Transportation Vehicles, Jail Cells, Isolation Rooms, Waiting Rooms, etc.

Exposure to crowded areas and contact with people heightens the risk of acquiring an infectious disease. All public facilities owe a “Duty of Care” to their patrons and business invitees, and their valued employees. If that “Duty of Care” is breached, it can result in actionable negligence.
Failure to apply disinfectants for 10-minute exposure periods on buses and other facilities used by the public defies federal label requirements on virtually all EPA-registered disinfectants. In the forefront of a pandemic, the custodians of publicly used facilities should be very concerned that exposure to lawsuits is possible for failure to utilize “best practices” decontamination protocols.

The areas of use for the transportation sector which should be treated by Zimek are: Buses, Trains, Subways, Airplanes, Ferry Boats, Yachts, Taxis, Shuttles, Rental Vehicles, Passenger Terminals, etc.
